Brihadeeshwarar Temple- Brihadeeshwarar Temple is also known as Peruvudaiyar Koyil and Rajarajeshwaram. It is is one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Tamil Nadu. Brihadeeshwarar Temple which is also called Big Temple is more than 1000 years old and was built by Raja Raja Chola in 1010 AD. This is India's one of the most important architectural sites and is classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO.

Chandra Bhagwan Temple - At a distance of about 25 km from the city is situated a most important navagraha temple which is Chandra Bhagwan Temple and Thanjavur city. This temple is dedicated to Moon God. The devotees come and pray in this temple to ward off the evils and offer raw rice, jiggery and white clothing to the deities in the temple.

Shiva Ganga Garden - It is located near the famous Tanjore Palace and you can see it from the Brihadeeshwarar temple as well. The garden is situated in Shivaganga Fort that was built in 16th century by Nayak ruler Sevappa Nayaka.

Vijayanagar Fort - At a distance of 2 Km from Brihadeeshwarar Temple is located Vijayanagar Fort. This temple was built by Marathas and Nayaka rulers during 1550 AD. Shiva Ganga Garden in situated in this fort and Tanjore Palace, Saraswathi Mahal Library and Sangeeth Mahal are also located nearby.

Vellai Puliar Temple - Thanjavur City Guide has many ancient temples and Vellai Puliar Temple is one of them. This temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha.
