Bandipur National Park

Situated in the Nilgiri, Bandipur is flanked by the Kabini, Nugu and Moyar rivers and besides the rivers, there are many seasonal streams flowing through this region. This place is under Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and is also the first Biosphere Reserve of the country which was established in 1931 and still the tourists visit this place to admire the breathtaking beauty of nature and also to enjoy a quiet vacation far from the disturbances of the nearby city. This is located in the district of Chamarajanagar. There is no human habitants here inside the reserve but there are almost 195 villages surrounding the area making this place an excellent tourist spot.

There are also a few scarce species including Sloth Bear, Pea Fowl, Four Horned Antelope, Panther, Python, Mouse Deer, and many fauna. Besides animals tourists can see some alien trees including Teak, Bamboo, Honne, Sandalwood, and Mathi. Bandipur holds the pride for being chosen site for Project Tiger, an initiative taken by the Government of India to protect the rare species and this project has been successful where the number of tigers has increased. Not only to the to the tigers, it is also a home to a large number of animals like Elephants, Sambhar, Wild Dog, Hornbill, Giant Squirrel, Deer, and Partridges. This wide diversity has encouraged the growth of different species of animals. The park is located in a large forest located to the south of the river Kabini and is in the list of World Wide Fund's Project Tiger areas. The climate of the place supports a wide variety of flora and fauna. The vegetation to the east of the park comprises of stunted trees while the northern edges have deciduous type of vegetation.
