Varkala Beach

About 45 Kms North of Trivandrum is Varkala which has laid back in a relaxed atmosphere rather than a compact crowdy beach. This beach is really undisturbed having no shops or restaurants and most of which are spread across are the two cliffs of North and South of the Papanasam beach. The wide plateau gives a panoramic view and a dip in these waters is believed to wash away the sins. European backwaters with a lower budget mostly occupy these places finding low tariffs and cost of food a big bonus. The tongues of backwaters , the extensive estuary and the interplay of water and land all add a beauty to this place. The coastal roads passing through this area is practically the one which holds the estuary and sea apart for a long stretch where there is no traffic.
